There has been a small number of diurnal Long-eared Owl sightings on Mull recently. Could this be off duty birds providing food for an incubating partner or does it mean a lack of food source in general. Is it continental birds feeding harder before a long journey back to their breeding grounds?

BTO ring recoveries show Long-eared Owls that have travelled great distances to migrate. One such bird, ringed in Cumbria, was found 8 months later in the Mariy region in western Russia, 3,279km from its ringing site! However, the majority of foreign-ringed birds found here have come from Germany.
