THE AZORES: OCEAN GIANTS
WILDLIFE EXPEDITION

12th-17th - April 2027

Set in the middle of the Atlantic, the volcanic islands of the Azores are one of the world’s premier whale-watching destinations, with an extraordinary 29 cetacean species recorded across the archipelago. We will spend five days exploring the nutrient-rich and deep waters around the marine haven of Pico Island.

Our time on the water will be spent aboard a privately chartered RIB with Espaço Talassa, pioneers of sustainable whale watching in the Azores. With more than three decades of experience in these waters and cetaceans recorded on 99% of excursions, we will focus particularly on the spectacular Blue Whale, which passes the Azores during its spring migration north. Alongside these ocean giants, we will be searching for Sperm Whales, Risso’s Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins,
and Common Dolphins, with the exciting possibility of encountering
Humpback Whales, False Killer Whales, Striped Dolphins and maybe a bonus Loggerhead Turtle.

We’ll be based in the heart of Lajes do Pico, near the harbour. This promises to be an immersive five-day wildlife experience, combining exceptional marine encounters with the fascinating history of an island that has transformed from commercial industry whaling to responsible wildlife tourism.
