While we were on Ardnamurchan on the 5th March we discovered a White-billed Diver just off the lighthouse! They are the largest member of the Divers and can be distinguished from Great-northern Divers by their larger and paler bill, also WB Divers in non-breeding plumage have white spots on their back and a paler sides to thair face. A rare sighting in UK waters, they breed high up in Arctic Russia.
This was my first White-billed Diver and it was great to share the encounter with my dad!
