Outside the core range...


Whilst visiting family in Aberdeenshire this weekend we discovered this male Pine Marten which was a victim of a busy road.

Although wildlife road fatalities are always a sad sight, they can be a very important indicator of population abundance. After looking at their distribution map, this record appears to be on the cusp of the mustelids core range.

As with all of our unusual mammal records we have submitted this discovery to the The Mammal Society.
