Whilst undertaking a BTO British Trust for Ornithology 'Breeding Bird Survey' on the moors of #Mull last weekend I had this Short-eared Owl flyby and take a closer look!

Hopefully there was an active nest somewhere nearby and this male manages to provide plenty of food for a healthy brood. Yet again in the north of Mull it seems to be a very poor year for this highly nomadic upland breeder.

This was one of seventeen species of bird I recorded within the 1km square, with other species including Curlew, Whinchat, Cuckoo and Tree Pipit. If you would like to read more about these important surveys and how you can take part, please view the link below...
