We have been given the task of trying to locate a satellite-tagged Hen Harrier on the moors of #Mull this summer. Some great days out in the field surrounded by wonderful upland ecology! #MullNatureExpedition #MullWildlifeTour #mullwildlife #MullTour #MullWildlifeTours #IsleofMull #Mull #HenHarrier #EwanMiles
We had memorable views of Hen Harriers on Thursdays Mull Nature Expedition as we recorded at least four birds occupying a concentrated area of moorland. We also watched one cock bird collecting nest material for 20 minutes! As part of the expeditions we are monitoring coastal sites for the national seabird census and April it is the time when Black Guillemot coverage is required. During the excursion we recorded occupancy on one of the designated sites. Other records on the e
Whilst climbing the highest peak of north #Mull at the weekend I discovered a natural treasure which has been a dream of mine to find for a long time! The gorgeous chalk-blue feather of an adult male Hen Harrier! The top left image shows a number of White-tailed Eagle wing and tail covert feathers I also found on the day. Bottom right shows a pellet containing short-tailed Vole skulls. #mullwinter #MullWildlifeTour #mullwildlife #MullTour #MullWildlifeTours #IsleofMull #Mull
The Isle of Islay Wildlife Experience with Iolo Williams 2018 Great views of a juvenile female Peregrine on day three and also another adult female Hen Harrier hunting wildfowl. All three species of Diver were observed in one small area of sea and Chough made an appearance towards the end of the day. Another Glaucous Gull was seen and great to witness such healthy numbers of Greenland White-fronted Geese. #Islay #IsleofIslay #IoloWilliams #WinterTours #WinterWildlife #Hebride
Wendy the satellite tagged Hen Harrier made a brief return to Mull in April before heading back to the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park on the mainland. DeeCee, another tagged Hen Harrier has made a number of recent visits to Mull from the Cairngorms National Park. To protect the birds and any nesting attempts during this sensitive time, the RSPB won't be updating the maps during the breeding season. http://www.rspb.org.uk/…/conserva…/henharrierlife/index.aspx #HenHarrier #Birdsof
Wendy the satellite tagged Hen Harrier has very recently left the Isle of Ulva and has travelled in a south easterly direction back to mainland Argyll, not too far away from her natal site! #conservation #science #raptorstudy #education #henharriers http://www.rspb.org.uk/…/conserva…/henharrierlife/index.aspx #HenHarrier #NatureScotland #MullWildlifeTours #MullWildlifeTour #WildlifeTours #WildlifeBlog #IsleofMull #Mull #MullEveningTour #EwanMiles
Settling down on wolf island... Wendy the satellite tagged Hen Harrier has been working a concentrated area on Ulva for six months now! This behaviour could well represent an ecological barometer of Vole numbers on the landmass. This is another great reason to visit the Isle of Ulva to go in search of this bird, that isn't just any Hen Harrier, it is an individual that you know the life history of! Afterwards you can pop in to The Boathouse Ulva for food and refreshments! htt
Wendy the satellite tagged Hen Harrier has been working a concentrated area on the Isle of Ulva for the last few months. Myself and a few other naturalists went out to search for Wendy recently and managed to scope a distant ringtail bird in the area where she is based. This could well have been Wendy, but we were too far away to see the antenna on her sat tag! Wendy is unfortunately now one of only 5 satellite tagged birds that is still active from last years 'Hen Harrier LI
To Coll and back!
Amazing Hen Harrier science with this female bird that was satellite tagged in Argyll and Bute this summer.
'Wendy' is currently settled on the Isle of Ulva and recently popped over to Coll and back in October!

We enjoyed another excellent wildlife packed Mull Half Day Tour today which included Bottlenose Dolphins, White-tailed Eagles, Golden Eagle, Otters, Greenshank, Kestrels, Yellowhammer and Hen Harriers, all in wonderful Hebridean sunshine! #MullHalfDayTour #MullWildlifeTours #EwanMiles #NatureScotland #IsleofMull #GoldenEagle #WhitetailedEagle #Eagle #HenHarrier
A Rustic Ringtail! We have enjoyed some nice views of Hen Harriers on recent tours as some birds stay on Mull year round, depending on food availability. This is a juvenile bird, indicated by the beautiful rustic colour on its undersides. #HenHarrier #EwanMiles #NatureScotland #MullHalfDayTour #MullWildlifeTours #IsleofMull
ISLE OF MULL HEN HARRIER DAY 2016 Join us at Craignure Bunkhouse for the islands second Hen Harrier Day! The nationwide campaign continues again in 2016 with this event being one of twelve around the country and strongly supported by naturalists such as Chris Packham and Iolo Williams. Thank you to Rick Thornton (http://www.rick-thornton-photography.com/) for donating this wonderful photograph of a male Hen Harrier. www.henharrierday.org #HenHarrier #HenHarrierDay2016 #HenHar
A white hawk in a white wilderness... Last week on a Wildlife Photography Workshop we had memorable views of a male Hen Harrier on the wing, surrounded by the snow-laden mountains on Mull! I was keen to capture a photo of this bird along with his snowy environment. The crisp morning light reflecting off the snow cover made the Hen Harriers magnificent plumage even more vibrant. A sensational bird... #NatureScotland #EwanMiles #WildlifeBlog #MullWildlifeTours #WildlifeTours #H
