Love is in the air...
Last week I spent a couple of hours monitoring a local Golden Eagle territory. The crisp sunshine and moderate breeze along with the time of year, provided the perfect ingredients to see some breeding behaviour from these noble birds.
Within minutes I got onto a GE, flying at speed, and soon realised he/she was chasing off two intruding WT Eagles from the glen. A second bird appeared and I watched two GEs soaring over their mountain home. The larger female then perched up on an outcrop on the skyline and the cock bird came down and landed next to her, before copulation took place! Only the third time I have seen this GE behaviour...amazing.
